Jim Cuddy has been making music with Greg Keilor for 40 years. For the last 34 of those years, they have made up the songwriting duo for one of Canada’s most beloved and best-selling bands, Blue Rodeo.
Brett sits down with Jim to talk about that partnership along with the challenges and benefits of a long standing collaboration. We explore what collaboration is and how it has been crucial to human evolution. And through the lens of Jim Cuddy’s latest album, Constellation, we see how collaboration not only has the ability to bring us together, but also to support us in times when we are torn apart.
Plus, Brett looks to find confirmation of an old event and Nick joins in to provide an update on their fasts from social media and cable news, respectively.
SPECIAL THANKS to Matt Yasecko at The Billions Corporation, Susan de Cartier at Starfish Entertainment, and Steve Waxman at Warner Music for helping to make our interview with Jim Cuddy happen, and being very generous in the process.
THANK YOU to Brett’s good friend Laurie Higashi for appearing in this episode. In addition to being a great human being, Laurie is an avid Instagrammer. Check out her Instagram.
For over 35 years, Jim Cuddy has written songs that have become indelible in the soundtrack of Canadian lives. With the release of his fourth solo album, Constellation, he adds ten songs to that extraordinary songbook. As one of the founding members and creative forces behind Blue Rodeo, Cuddy has received nearly every accolade Canada can bestow upon a musician, from the Order of Canada and induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, to countless JUNO Awards and a Star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. Behind it all, is a simple devotion to his craft as a songwriter, which remains Cuddy’s tireless pursuit after more than three decades.
